Matsuka Oleksiy

Director General of Ukrinform.

He has worked as editor-in-chief of the Dom TV channel (for the temporarily occupied territories), UATV (Russian-language foreign broadcasting of Ukraine), and as editor-in-chief of the Freedom TV channel, which are part of the state enterprise Multimedia Platform of Foreign Broadcasting of Ukraine.

In 2009, he founded the Donetsk Institute of Information, a non-governmental organisation that has been publishing the Donbas News website since then and has been holding the annual Donbas Media Forum since 2015.

From 2014 to 2016, he worked as the editor-in-chief of the Donbas Realities project at Radio Liberty.

He holds a master's degree in Political Science from Donetsk National University (2000-2005).

In April 2014, he was included in the list of "100 Heroes of Information" published by Reporters Without Borders.

In October 2014, he was awarded the International Press Freedom Award by the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression.
